Ανακοίνωση του HHF
Dear Members, Donors & Supporters,
We hope you and your families are coping as well as can be during this challenging time and remaining in good physical and mental health.
The HHF Board, members and volunteers have all been hard at work during this pandemic and we wanted to provide you with a brief update of what we’ve been working on.
While the Hellenic Heritage Foundation (HHF) is chiefly a fundraising organization promoting Hellenism through educational, heritage and cultural initiatives, we are using this time to address the needs of one of the most cherished institutions in our community, the Hellenic Home for the Aged, which operates two long-term care facilities and a seniors’ residence.
COVID-19 has affected the Hellenic Home in two ways. The Long-Term Care facility in Scarborough is currently dealing with an outbreak which has taken a toll on vulnerable seniors and front-line workers. With the help of many donors and supporters, the Hellenic Home was able to secure supplies of desperately needed Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Secondly, the Home will not be able to hold its annual fundraising events which support important programming for seniors. The start-up of programs will be vital to the emotional and physical well-being of its elderly residents in the aftermath of the coronavirus.
Now more than ever, it is important to demonstrate our philanthropy and service to our community. The HHF has raised $100,000 to give the Hellenic Home for the Aged to help the organization meet its needs in the face of the pandemic.
In addition, our Next Generation Committee launched an initiative to supply much needed PPE for the Hellenic Home, including 5,000 surgical masks, 2,000 KN95 masks and 6 pails of hand sanitizer (20 litres each), 3 hand pumps and 112 refill bottles.
The HHF also contributed to the Pronia of the Greek Community of Toronto during Orthodox Easter. The HHF stepped up to provide $5,000 to help the organization carry out its Easter Food Bank drive to feed 400 people – this includes about 52 Greek families with 230 people, many of them seniors.
If you would like to join our efforts in helping the Hellenic Home for the Aged, you can make a donation by going directly through their website: https://hellenichome.org/donations-giving/ways-of-giving/.
We look forward to seeing everyone again soon but in the meantime, take care of one another by staying safe.
Best regards,
George Keroglidis
